No matter how difficult it may be at times, we are to forgive people and what they do to us. Even Jesus, in great physical pain after being tortured and nailed to the cross , still found reasons to request those who were killing him be pardoned of their transgressions (Luke 23:33 - 34). Jesus is why we don’t want to hold on to grudges. This is a lifelong process so we should always be easy on ourselves. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. In fact, if the enemy can inspire us to hate our neighbor, then he has won. So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.”. That person or group of people may never admit their wrongdoings towards you, but because you’ve forgiven them, they no longer have any power over you. Yet she understands that we must forgive without questioning the goodness of God. With the grace and mercy shown to us, we are always able to start new with God. In Matthew 18, Peter had learned from his traveling with Jesus that it is important to forgive—but surely, he reasoned, there must be a limit to how often we forgive! Letting go of grudges against someone doesn’t mean that you excuse them for what they did or let them run over you. Those situations can happen every day, like when someone cuts you off on the highway or jumps ahead in line at the drug store. We should give sacrificially as we feel led by God and allow Him to use our giving to bring about a great harvest in the lives of others and in His church. When we tend to be frustrated and upset about some of the things that we face in our daily experience, remember: If our hearts are filled with a spirit of forgiveness, we won’t quickly get upset when someone does things that cross our path. We are to be “the aroma of Christ” says the Apostle Paul (2 Corinthians 2:15). We have been forgiven of so much that forgiveness should be a way of life for us. Not only should we say that we forgive him but we should really forgive him from our heart. . This is why Jesus said we are to forgive one another seventy times seven (Matthew 18:22). We are always willing to forgive when given the opportunity. That means the one who forgives also gains from dispelling negative emotions. We refuse it and set ourselves up as the new judge and pronounce a death sentence over ourselves. This is the wisdom behind forgiving others and the Holy Bible also provides us with reasons why we should forgive. One of those things is to forgive those who have wronged you because that’s what God has done for you. Whatever the offences, we are told to forgive those who offended us as many times as we are offended. We read verses, listen to meditations, and…. Forgiveness comes from God and when we forgive others that is an earthly reflection of God and His love being poured out on the cross of Jesus Christ. Especially when we believe these lies about what happens when we forgive. How long must one keep on forgiving? The reason, Jesus went on to say, is because we should treat others the same way God has treated us. This is why we turn all the debts owed to us over to Jesus. Our discipline often does not include grace and mercy. So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.
